Friday the 13th is the best!

friday the 13th

Does it make me weird that I love Friday the 13th?

I want to say I’m not a superstitious person but at the same time I find myself being cautious of some things …Just in case …

So what are some of those crazy Friday the 13th superstitions!? (or just crazy superstitions in general)

1 –It’s a day riddled with bad luck.

We’ve all heard that one and some people truly believe that every time a Friday the 13th rolls around, they have the worst day ever! I’ll be honest as far as today has gone… it’s been a stressful day. But we’re doing alright and generally I think Friday the 13th is a pretty good day! I enjoy them and all their darkness.

2 –If you get a haircut on Friday the 13th a family member will die!

Umm. Negative. I had a hard time typing that without giggling because it’s ridiculous!

3 –Black cats are bad luck or mean something bad is going to happen to you if one crosses your path.

Ok let me be honest, if I see a black cat… I’m chasing it down so I can love it. I think black cats are the best. They are sooooo cute! The only thing a black cat crossing my path signifies to me is that it has somewhere to go!

4 –Don’t open an umbrella inside!!

I mean, it’s probably not bad luck but let’s just not do that. It seems dangerous and unnecessary. Something about it also just annoys me!

5 –Breaking a mirror will bring you 7 years of bad luck …

I must have broken a lot of mirrors because my luck is horrrrrible!!! But seriously, I don’t think it will actually bring on all this bad luck. However, I get a little concerned and hyper sensitive when myself or someone else does break a mirror.

6 –if you spill salt to avoid the bad luck you have to throw salt over your right shoulder.

Yep. I do that. Then I get angry because I have to clean it up.

Are you superstitious? What are your irrational fears and superstitions? Do you fear Friday the 13th?

Choose Positivity. Change the World.

The other day a friend of mine of Facebook posted about an experience they had with a customer service representative over the phone. They made a comment about how customer service is dead and it made me think …

I work in a call center for a very large and well known company so I see the other end of those conversations. I’ve been the customer and I am the rep, every day. I promise you it isn’t as easy as it seems.

Just think about it, sitting on the phone all day, every day with calls coming in back to back to back…. For 8 hours …every day ….mind you, the majority of the people you are talking to are not being exactly nice. Now don’t get me wrong, there are many great people I talk to day after day. But there are also people who have been incredibly hateful. I also only have the experience for my own job so maybe this doesn’t apply to every setting.

Now I don’t want to delve into all these horrible calls or reps that I’ve experienced because that is not the point of this. The point is… it’s not that customer service is dead’s that human decency is dead.

In my experience with my employer I have had the privilege of speaking with some incredibly kind and great people. I’ve talked to people who just needed help and were so grateful when I could just help them. But I have also talked to people who have cussed me and verbally broken me down over something so menial. I have had my first and only experience with racism against myself all because I was doing my job as I was expected to do it. I was kind and professional and it didn’t matter. It’s heartbreaking and can really take a toll on a person when you are dealing with that day after day.

But we have to remember that we are all human beings and just because someone else was hateful or we are going through a hard time does not mean we need to take it out on someone else. It’s a vicious cycle …”abusive” customers cause calloused reps and calloused reps cause “abusive” customers. That doesn’t go for just reps and customers either. It’s simply being a decent human being to each other.

We rarely hear those pass it down stories where someone ahead of you in line at Starbucks paid for your drink so you did the same for the person behind you. But we need to, we need more of those people and less of the people who have no care for anyone but themselves.

Don’t forget that the person providing you that “Customer service” is another human being who has their own issues and maybe what they need is a kind person to show them not everyone is out to get them.

You are so much more likely to get what you want when you are nice instead of screaming and yelling. You attract more bees with fields of flowers than you do with a pond of vinegar.

We have to take accountability for our own actions because those are the only actions and choices we can control. If you choose to be mean and hateful then don’t get upset when someone is mean and hateful back. We can’t lose faith in society because then it is truly lost. We have to, as cliché as it sounds, be the change we want to see. We have to stand up and be what we want society to be because actions and attitudes (good or bad) are contagious.

Choose wisely.

Pass it down.

Be the reason someone smiles today!

Let’s Talk about Earthing!

Grounding Banner

So it’s been awhile, I’m aware. I have a hard time getting these things written and posted with work and life. It’s all a bit busy. But I’m trying.

Any who, a couple weeks ago my little family and I went to the beach for our summer vacation. Coming from Southern California where the beach is never more than 2 hours away (depending on that lovely CA traffic —can you hear my sarcasm?) –and now living in Tennessee where I am constantly surrounded by trees and mountains (which don’t get me wrong I LOVE IT! It’s gorgeous out here and reminds me of my small mountain town back in So Cal) …but I miss the beach terribly sometimes. So this is a vacation I was very excited about and look forward to all year.

I am one of those people that love sand. I even brought some home with me so I could play with it when I get stressed out. Something about it calms me. Which I know is weird because it usually has the opposite effect on people. In fact, I am the only one in my family that didn’t mind being covered in it the entire time we were there. *shrug*

Every day I sat in the sand right where the water rushed on shore and dug my hands into the sand. Just thinking about it relaxes me now. My hands and toes in the sand, the warm waves rushing past me, the sun shining through. It was perfect. I could literally feel my stress and anxiety leaving my body. I hadn’t felt that relaxed in a very long time.

It made me think back to an article I had read a couple months ago about this thing called “Grounding”(or “Earthing”)… and no I do not mean the kind where you’re in trouble and locked away in your room like Rapunzel or Cinderella. I mean taking off your shoes and letting your bare feet connect with the bare earth. No, not sidewalks or gravel or asphalt or any other man made surface. I mean the dirt and grass, the sand!

To some I may sound a little crazy but there have been studies done that have shown there are serious benefits to Grounding/Earthing and connecting with the earth. We are made up of mostly water and the earth is like a battery. Connecting with the earth removes stress and toxins. It has also been shown to help with sleeping and depression. Along with SO many other positive benefits.

It’s incredibly easy to find more information on Earthing and its benefits but simply Googling it. It’s surprising how many articles you will find that discuss people’s personal experiences and the benefits found through research.

I truly suggest it. Just for 5-10 minutes a day go stand outside and take in nature. Sure a stroll through the woods may not be the best way to start seeing as there is lots of sticks and things you can step on. The beach may not be something that is close to you or maybe you’re someone who hates the feel of sand. But I promise you, no matter where you are, there is a patch of grass or dirt nearby that you can go stand in or walk around on for a few minutes. You may feel weird at first but the benefits are SO worth it and let’s be honest here… It can’t hurt to try!

Call me Crazy!

I have come to realize that I am a mildly crazy person… ok, that’s actually not new news to me at all. I’ve always been slightly beyond the sanity line (but in a good, fun and goofy kind of way) I’m a bit quirky sometimes …any who, I’m putting this out there in hopes of finding out that I am not alone.

I am the kind of person that when I find something new that I like I become crazy obsessed. For example, when I discovered how amazing Wonder Woman is I had to buy everything in sight that had her likeness. Figurines, shirts, necklaces, wallet, key chain (the list goes on trust me) ….all the way down to a tattoo. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with it and I absolutely LOVE Wonder Woman so the obsession will continue forever. Haha

My newest thing is Loki from Thor/Avengers and the Avengers franchise in general. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend thinks I’m nuts. Which isn’t wrong …but I can’t help it and he’ll accept it eventually I hope. LoL

Now it is not just characters that I do this with. I did it with Boston as well. The whoooole damn city! I went to visit and fell in love with that place. I legitimately almost didn’t leave. When I did leave I tried everything I could to plan to move there. I became obsessed with Boston sports team (Go Pats and Sox) …an obsession that carries on several years later and will forever. It’s just an amazing place.

Anyway, is anyone else like that?

Does anyone else find something or someone or somewhere that they just can’t help but become crazy about?

Again …just trying to justify my crazy here! Lol

Anyway, I suppose that’s the end of my little rant for today.

Mommy’s are the BEST!!

With Mother’s Day just a couple days away I want to take a moment to not just reflect on how lucky I am to have the best Mommy in the world but to reflect on how awesome moms are.

So often we think about a Mom as someone who gave birth to you. But there is so much more than that. Of course there are your birth Mommy’s but just as important are step moms, adoptive moms, or even pet moms! They’re all awesome!

Sometimes a mom isn’t even someone you call mom. It is someone who has always been there for you, guiding you and showing you the way. Someone who has put Band-Aids on your boo boos and tucked you in at night. It could be a big sister that practically raised you or a grandma that took you in when your birth mom wasn’t there. Maybe an aunt or a best friend’s mom… it could be anyone that you want it to be. For some people it’s their Dad.

I was lucky enough to have the best mom EVER! As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized just how awesome she is. My mom has always been the most selfless person I have ever known. She’s been incredibly strong and never so much as blinked an eye when I asked her for help. She’s been there through the hardest moments in my life from losing my dad when I was 8 all the way through being an angry teenager and then going through a horrible marriage and divorce. She has been my rock and my biggest supporter. She’s just the best!

But I am very aware that not everyone was so lucky, and for that I am even more grateful.

I hope that if you are reading this that you were blessed to have an incredible mom, and if you weren’t I hope you had someone special in your life that was there to encourage you when you needed it or that you had the fire to fight and become the best you that you can be no matter what your circumstances were.

And if you are a mom I hope you have the incredible Mother’s Day that you deserve!

Happy Mother’s Day Mom(s)!

Why Do I Write?

Why do I write …

To be honest it took me a long time to decide I wanted to try blogging because I was afraid maybe embarrassed about the things I wanted to say and share. When I started a handful of years back it was because I was in a dark place and thought it would be a good outlet to not only express my feelings and thoughts but to also use my experiences to help someone else. Have I don’t that? I don’t know but I hope so. Life is so much better now and I don’t need the outlet… so why do it? …well, I just feel like I have a lot to share and can still maybe help someone or even just help make someone’s day better.

But its days like this that frustrate me ….I have no idea what to write and have been trying to figure it out nonstop since last week. I’ve started, stopped, edited and deleted several different posts because they were meaningless and pure ramble. Which I suppose this one is as well. But as a reintroduction I suppose it’s important for people to understand my purpose… unless you want to go back and read all my previous posts (which would be super great and I would love you forever)!!

It just amazes me how much I don’t have to say because life is good now and I’m happy. Your brain has a way of just slowing down when it’s happy. I would never change my journey because it lead me here …to the happiest place I’ve ever been in my life. But it’s been a long and incredibly difficult journey. I’ve been tested, beat down, doubted and treated like dirt. But it was all so worth it.

My only word of advice is to remove the negativity from your life and don’t waste time doing it. Just do it now! It will be difficult at first but it will be so worth it in the end.  We all have our bad days, that’s just life. But there is no reason to keep cancerous friends, or stay in an abusive relationship. There is no reason to let people kick you until you fall and then continue to kick you while you’re down. You have one life… live it for YOU and no one else!!

I’m sorry this is just another rant. But I’m really trying here!! Haha 🙂

Thank you for being a part of my journey!

Photo Challenge – Lines

Today’s photo challenge is Lines.

This beautiful picture was taken from my backyard. I’m truly blessed.

There was once a time in my life when I couldn’t see the beauty around me because I was so wrapped up in my own darkness. But life is different now and I breath these moments in as if they were a requirement to living.

Tennessee is a beautiful place. Take a look at the world around you. Breath in these moments.
